Knickerbocker Stories

On the evening of January 28, 1922, several hundred people fought their way through a record-breaking snowstorm to see a show at the Knickerbocker Theatre. Sadly, the theater’s roof crashed to the ground when the film started, killing 98 and injuring 133.

The 100th anniversary of the Knickerbocker Theatre disaster occurred on January 28, 2022.  This book contains a collection of short stories about people impacted by the terrible roof crash. Descendants provided the information and photos.  The stories mix tragedy, good fortune (near misses), and even a love story spurred on by the disaster.  These are their stories of life and death and what happened in the years that followed the tragedy.     

After a century, I’m happy to document the stories in print.
